Clutch Cargo Opening Video

For those that have never seen an episode of Clutch Cargo, this is the cartoon that inspired the people at Late Night With Conan O'Brien's TV gag. You know, the one with the photo of someone famous, but someone else's lips are super-imposed over it?

Wasn't there a sci- ...
Wasn't there a sci-fi version with this type of moving-mouth animation called "Space Angel"? The title character ( I believe) was named Scott McCloud and wore an eyepatch, had a girlfriend named Crystal, and had a sidekick who spoke with a Scottish accent named Tarus, who had red hair & beard? Please? tell me that I'm not wrong on this cuz somehow I remember seeing this and Clutch Cargo as a grade-school kid in the 60s. Thanx.

What? really sucked ...
What? really sucked about these cartoons was once in a blue moon they actually tried to use some real animation. It looked worse than those lousy moving lips.

And? named "Clutch."
And? named "Clutch."

The lead character ...
The lead character always looked like? he was wearing lipstick. Maybe he was named Clutch because that was the style of purse he liked to use.

Yea, they should ...
Yea, they should have given him a real? manly name, like Bradley.

The animation in ...
The animation in this thing makes the? Looney Tunes look like they were drawn by Michelangelo. I know it was the 1960's with a limited budget, but dammit.

Ohhhhhhh, okay, no ...
Ohhhhhhh, okay, no wonder. In the late 60's/early 70's, I was too? old for cartoons. I grew up in Woburn!

The people who did ...
The people who did this cartoon also had one called "Space Angel" that is not as well? remembered (but it did have those lips though). BTW - the voice of Clutch and some other characters was Hal Smith (aka "Otis" from "The Andy Griffith Show"). Spinner was a lady named Margaret Kerry.

It aired on channel ...
It aired on channel 56 (WLVI-TV in Boston) in the late '60s and early '70s during the weekday morning cartoon show? that ran from 11 am - noon (don't quote me but it may have been "Cartoon Carnival"). Not sure if they ever aired a Clutch Cargo show per se, but just the individual installments of each adventure. I grew up in Brockton just south/southwest of Boston and remember it well - the creepy lips, non-existent animation and all.

I? don't think was ever aired in the Boston area..........I vaguely recall hearing of this show, but never saw it.

Sometimes, people, ...
Sometimes, people, including children, need to trust their instincts. When I first saw Clutch Cargo, I knew something was off, with the superimposed lips, and the otherwise lack of action - for a cartoon! I always felt like? I had to take a bath after watching CC, whenever I had the misfortune to do so. Well. . .I was right!

This too was also on Sally Starr's Popeye Theater here in Philadelphia back in the 60's when I was a kid. Unfortunately, this was not one of my? favorite cartoons.

I got to meet Margaret Kerry, who voiced not? only Spinner and Paddlefoot, but also Crystal on Space Angel, at a celebs convention in North Hollywood in early 2002. Really a nice lady.
